Lawrence Beesley, an English science teacher, journalist, and author, boarded the Titanic as a second class passenger. He had been in his cabin reading when the collision with the iceberg occurred. Beesly stopped a steward to ask what had happened but was advised that it was nothing. Luckily, he made his way up to A-Deck and was ordered to jump into Lifeboat No. 13 just before it launched. He wrote a successful book about his experience called The Loss of the SS Titanic that was published just nine weeks after the disaster.
Frederick Fleet, an English crewman and lookout on the RMS Titanic, was one of the first to spot the iceberg that sunk the Titanic. Fleet believed the iceberg could have been spotted earlier had the only pair of binoculars on the Titanic been used instead of stored in an officer’s locker. This may have given the Titanic more time to evade the iceberg and could have prevented the sinking altogether. Fleet was assigned to Lifeboat No. 6 to assist the passengers and was among the survivors rescued by the Carpathia.
Violet Constance Jessop, an Argentinian stewardess aboard the Olympic, Titanic’s sister ship, was persuaded by her friends to sign on as a stewardess for the Titanic’s maiden voyage. She was half asleep in her bunk when the collision occurred, and was immediately ordered up on deck. Jessop was ordered into Lifeboat No. 16 and given a baby to look after. After eight hours, the passengers aboard Lifeboat No. 16 were rescued by the Carpathia, and the baby was reunited with its mother. Jessop later survived the sinking of the Britannic, another sister ship of the Titanic.
Dorothy Gibson, an American silent film actress, model, and singer, was one of the more famous people aboard the Titanic. She was playing bridge with her friends in the lounge when the Titanic collided with the iceberg. Gibson and two of her friends escaped in Lifeboat No. 7, the first lifeboat launched. After arriving in New York on the rescue ship Carpathia, she was persuaded by her manage to appear in a film based on the sinking. She even appeared in the same clothing she had worn aboard the Titanic that night-a white silk evening dress topped with a cardigan and polo coat.
Elizabeth Shutes, and American governess to Scottish noblewoman Margaret Graham, boarded the Titanic as a first class passenger. Shutes and Graham felt the collision from their cabin, but when they asked a passing crewman if anything was wrong, he assured them there was no danger. However, they were quickly ordered to board Lifeboat No. 3 just moments later. Shutes later described the chaotic scene on the lifeboat, shortly before they were rescued by the Carpathia: “Our men knew nothing about the position of the stars, hardly how to pull together. Two oars were soon overboard. The men’s hands were too cold to hold on…Then across the water swept that awful wail, the cry of those drowning people.” Sadly, only 706 passengers survived the disaster. 1,503 people died.

Those two nations are Japan and Russia (formerly the Soviet Union). Yes, the fighting may have ended 70 years ago, but they have never been able to come to agreeable terms on what to do with four small islands just north of Japan. You see, in 19...

Origin of the 8 Hour Work Day
Переглядів 5 тис.10 років тому
The 8 hour work day is quite common now, but it wasn't always this way. Back in the late 18th century during the Industrial Revolution, companies started to maximize the output of their factories by running them 24/7. At that time, 10-16 hour days were the norm. These incredibly long work days were not sustainable and soon a brave man named Robert Owen started a campaign to have people work no ...
M&M's Surprising History

M&M's stands for Mars & Murrie. M&M’s were first sold in 1941, but when World War II began, they were sold exclusively to the U.S. military. Because the sugar coating prevented the candy from melting in warm climates like the Pacific, M&M’s were issued in cardboard tubes as part of the soldier’s rations. During this time, the M&M factory in Newark, New Jersey produced 200,000 pounds of M&M’s pe...

Today we are talking about the underground Nuclear Factory that was recently found in Austria. Those suspicions came one step closer to being confirmed after the opening of a 75-acre underground complex was dug out...

Da Vinci's "The Last Supper" Affects Your Life Today!

In Leonardo da Vinci's painting "The Last Supper," one obvious detail has affected the lives of men and women for generations. Whether or not it was da Vinci's intention, his painting has changed what is acceptable for individuals at the dinner table. Because Judas was the only disciple with his elbow on the table in the painting, it is now considered impolite and rude to sit with your elbows o...

And don't forget he also drew the Istanbul bridge exactly as it was built in the year 2000 - 500 years later, they used his project!

It still hasn't ended, it's raging on currently in Ukraine and Israel.
Here is a model kit of da Vinci's tank
My new invention is a vacuum cleaner that doesn't use electric. As you push the appliance forward, you pull the string and it spins the brush too!
So he only went against his uncle because he didn't get a high ranking cozy position.
Grave-ity is not real. Levity, density, and buoyancy are though.

Gods. Someone online told me his name was inspired by my favorite angel and I nearly believed it given that my favorite angel is sometimes known as Samiel and is Death. Good to see though that Uncle Sam was in fact a flesh and blood person before he was war propiganda. Not a seventh demensional force of nature.

Also, as far as I’m aware, it seemed to be a marriage of convenience, since he never had a kid with her, unlike a certain German scientist (ahem, “Von Braun). Whether or not that makes it any better, i don’t think so, but that’s up to you.
Smart guy. He really applied the theory of relativity there.

WH Hitler's mother was an Irish woman named Bridget Dowling.
Look. There is no actual evidence that any of those dodgy brown ink drawings were made by Leonardo. He was just a renaissance artist and all the other stuff about his incredible forward looking inventions was made up in the 1970s.
Did u know that my birthday is lenardo di vinchis?
Weren't his parents also cousins?
Yeah. Their fathers were cousins and mothers were sisters.
It's said that his marriage to Elsa was a marriage of convenience and I don't understand why. If someone can help me understand.
